New Year's Resolutions for You and Your Cat
Estimates show nearly half of Americans make New Year's resolutions, but all Americans know keeping those resolutions is not quite as common. Here's a resolution you'll love to accomplish: Make 2018 the best year ever for you and your kitty by making resolutions you can work on together.
Ready? Set? Go!
Resolution #1: Prioritize the Important Things
You: Life is full of responsibilities that fill our days, but in 2018, make it a priority to take time for the things you love (like your cat!). This might require saying "no" to some commitments to allow time for the things you hold dear.
Your cat: Try to make time to spend with your humans. They need you and (believe it or not) you need them. This might mean postponing a nap or spending a little less time hiding under the bed, but it's worth it in the long run.
Resolution #2: Take Care of Your Chompers
You: Go ahead and schedule those twice-yearly dental cleanings. Your teeth will thank you. And hey — when you're not worried about cavities or plaque, just think how much freer you'll be to think about things you love, like your darling, precious, adorable cat.
Your cat: Cooperate with having your teeth brushed, even though you don't like it. And visit your veterinarian for regular, professional teeth cleanings (this is important, so be brave). Here's the best part: you can ask your human for treats that help with your dental health — like Meow Mix® Brushing Bites®.
Resolution #3: Resolve to Eat Healthy
You: Eat healthier in 2018! We know what you're thinking: "But I love my donuts and potato chips!" Don't despair — eating healthy doesn't mean every meal will consist of kale and quinoa. It just means you'll make healthy substitutions for certain foods while still enjoying the ones you love best. Treat yourself like you treat your cat: You love to spoil him now and again, but know the best way to show your love for him is with an overall healthy diet.
Your cat: Eat all the things you love best; especially those with quality ingredients and the nutrients you need to stay healthy. If your human wants you to try something new, give it a go. After all, she's the one who can read nutrition labels.
Resolution #4: Strive to Be Happy
You: This isn't always easy, but it might be the most important resolution of all. In 2018, focus on joy! Make a conscious effort to appreciate the happy things in life, however small. You know, things like fuzzy slippers, chocolate milk and stroking that soft spot between your cat's ears.
Your cat: Here's the key, cats: Just don't think about anything you don't want to think about. Spend time doing what you love. Nap in the sunshine if you want to. Daydream. Purr. Think about how much you love your life and your human, and — oh yeah — that awesome scratching post.
