Meet Sir Spanky: The Noseprint™ Dog of the Month
Doodle dog Sir Spanky and his pet parent James share their story of love, adventure and breaking into grocery stores.
Tell us you how you met Sir Spanky.
We were searching for a doodle. This “little” guy was the last of his litter who needed a forever home.
Describe Sir Spanky in three words.
Intelligent, mischievous and playful.
Describe a typical day with Sir Spanky.
First he takes his girl, (my daughter), to school, then it is back home for his walk or run. Then he lets himself in and out, in and out, in and out, as he has learned to open all the doors in the house. We have to block the pantry door with a chair, so Sir Spanky can’t help himself to any snacks.
When his curiosity isn’t getting him into trouble, he likes to patrol the outdoors for cats.
Sir Spanky starts making his way to the garage when he knows it is time to pick up his girl from school. He greets all the kids and teachers while waiting for his girl. In the evening, we take him on a family walk where we all walk together.
Tell us a story about Sir Spanky.
After we got him, he quickly learned to open the sliding doors on our van by pushing the button with his paw. One day, Sir Spanky was riding along for a quick trip to the grocery store. I’d no sooner parked when I heard his foot hit the button. Sir Spanky was out of the van and through the store’s front doors. We caught him in aisle six — probably headed back to the meat department. Sir Spanky is still a celebrity at our local grocery store.
How do you make the most of your time together?
Family activities such as running local 5K races, family swims and walks.
What’s the best thing about being a pet parent?
Unconditional and constant love.
What tips or advice would you give people thinking about adopting a dog?
Treat them and love them as part of the family. And help them to be a better pet for you by participating in obedience classes.
How will Sir Spanky celebrate being The Noseprint™ Dog of the Month?
He will celebrate with a good run at the park, followed by a belly dip in the creek.
