Meet PixieBelle: The Noseprint™ Dog of the Month
Tell us how you met PixieBelle.
We found PixieBelle at the local animal shelter. She was four months old and had been found as a stray. The people at the shelter said that she would be up for adoption the next morning and the first people to arrive in the parking lot would be able to adopt her, so we spent the night in our car outside the shelter. Pixiebelle was officially ours the week before Thanksgiving in 2011.
Describe PixieBelle in three words.
Curious, loving, and hungry!
Describe a typical day with PixieBelle.
PixieBelle and I get up at 5:30 each morning. I feed her and then we sit on the sofa and have snuggles and coffee for about an hour before I get dressed and leave for work. PixieBelle sees to her human brothers and makes sure they get ready for school and work, then does the same with her Dad.
While we are away she stands guard on the living room sofa back, patrols the backyard and monitors the activity on the street. Thursday is her favorite day of the week because she gets to bark at the trash and recycling trucks as they go down the alley. After school we get treats and go on long walks around the neighborhood. Dinner comes at 5 each day, followed by another short walk, playing with toys and more sofa snuggles until bedtime. She sleeps with Mom and Dad and loves to snuggle under the covers!
Where’s your favorite place to go together?
PixieBelle is a road traveler! She has been on road trips to New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. She has even visited Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park.
What tips or advice would you give people thinking about adopting a dog?
Being a pet parent is a true commitment and not to be taken lightly. Dogs count on us for everything... love, affection, shelter, food, acceptance, understanding and companionship. Dogs aren't possessions; they're family members and should always be treated as such. I have never had a time in my life when I didn’t have at least one dog as a part of my family, and I hope to never experience life without one.
