Meatball: The Noseprint™ Dog of the Month
Meatball the Airedale lives a pretty sweet life full of adventure and ice cream with his pet parent Lindsey. Lindsey tells us why Meatball has convinced her that living the dog’s life is best for everyone.
Tell us how you met Meatball. Meatball came to us from Sherry, who breeds Airedales at Tenkiller Airedales. Sherry has an amazing ability to pick the right puppies for their humans. She knew that Meatball would be perfect for us, and she was right! She also does an incredible job breeding Airedales to ensure that they are loved and cared for right from the beginning. We are lucky.
Describe Meatball in three words. Reasonable, kind and fluffy.
Tell us a story about Meatball. Meatball gets along with almost all dogs, and he loves puppies. One day, Meatball and his dad were out for a walk, and a tiny, sickly little puppy appeared from out of nowhere. It was clearly lost or abandoned. Meatball immediately went over to him, gave him a nose poke, and I think told the puppy, "Come home with us, you'll be safe there." The puppy followed them home. We gave him a bath and food, and then a few weeks later one of our dear friends adopted him. Now the puppy, named Chicharito, is five years old, and he and Meaty are best friends. They see each other almost every week and play and snuggle. The puppy sensed that Meatball had a heart of gold, and he was right!
Where’s your favorite place to go together? We live in the desert, and it gets really hot. Given that Meatball is 100 pounds, he doesn't love the heat, so we always try to get up in the mountains, where it is nice and cool. Meatball loves running through the streams. If we can't go to the mountains, we go up to his grandpa's house, where there is a pool. His favorite activity is lying on a pool raft, and he can stay there for hours!
What’s the best thing about being a pet parent? The best part for us is that we always have a reason to get outside or go on an adventure. We take Meatball on all of our road trips. Oftentimes, if we don't have plans on a weekend, we go somewhere outdoors so all of us can experience the beauty of nature. We did a lot of adventuring before we got Meaty, but I think we do it even more now because it's so fun to bring a dog along!
What tips or advice would you give people thinking about adopting a dog? If I had any advice, I would say that parenting a dog is actually easier than you think. If you make sure he is loved, socialized and exercised, you don't need much more than that. We give Meatball everything he needs, but nothing he doesn't need. We kept his training very simple and keep other expenses to a minimum by not buying expensive toys and letting his hair grow the way it grows instead of paying a groomer. This pet-parenting style may not work for all dogs, but it really worked for Meatball, and it made our lives a lot easier.
Meatball has quite the social media presence! Do you have any particular methods or rules for your Instagram photos? I try to keep my posts to once per day. Besides that, each day I try to take a photo of him in a different context so his followers can see him doing all sorts of different things. And I always try to include his ears in the picture, because people love them!
How will you celebrate being The Noseprint™ Dog of the Month? Extra Milk-Bone® Dog Snacks! Or maybe we will go to the drive-through ice cream shop and buy him a kid's-size vanilla cone. He lives a good life.
Here’s to Meatball, Lindsey, and living the dog’s life! Keep up with Meatball's adventures by following him on Instagram at @meatballtheairedale.
