Team: Canine Assistants
Town: Lakewood, CA
Breed: Golden Retriever
Pet Parent: Rachel Guske
- Advanced detection of seizures
- Alerts family when partner needs help
- Brings happiness, love and joy to everyone around him
As a seizure-response dog, Smith ensures the safety of his partner, Rachel. He is also a calming presence for her, which has helped greatly reduce the frequency of her seizures. Though Smith is Rachel's dog, he is intuitive to the needs of everyone in the family, particularly when they are not feeling well or in pain.
The Canine Assistants program trains and provides service dogs for those who have physical disabilities, seizure conditions or other special needs. Thanks to support from Milk-Bone®, Canine Assistants has placed more than 2,000 hero dogs with individuals across the U.S.
