Commemorating Lost Friends
Easily the most heartbreaking thing about being friends with a dog or a cat is the day that you have to say goodbye. All those days you spent together, all that time, all that love — and in an instant, it’s gone. It’s a hard grief to explain, and there are some that won’t understand. They’ll say, “But it was just a dog, right?” or “It was only a cat.” Those people don’t understand that “it” was your friend, your confidant, a someone. But we do.
We know what it’s like to raise a cantankerous puppy until old age, like Michael and Sally the Pyrenees mountain dog.
We know that losing a dog can feel like losing the last of your childhood, like Jessica and Jake the golden retriever.
And we know that no matter how many articles you read, or how many keepsakes you buy, there is no right way to cope with losing a furry friend.
In honor of World Pet Memorial Day, we invite you to read these stories of love and loss and share some of your own.
