Ask the Expert: How Do I Train a Stubborn Dog?
Some dogs are less inclined to listen than others. Terriers, Chihuahuas, collies and beagles are known to be especially stubborn. The dilemma is that you love them for their independent spirits but would really like them to listen when they are misbehaving!
The good news is most stubborn dogs are smart dogs and enjoy learning games. The key is to make learning “come” “stay” and “off” fun for your dog by rewarding good behavior with praise, petting, playtime, or a small tasty treat. I like to break up Milk-Bone® Soft & Chewy Treats and give little pieces to my dogs after each instance of good behavior.
