5 Year-round Gifts from My Cats
Each year, my family and I exchange gifts. But no matter what I receive, I already have the best gifts: my furry felines. While not all of my kitties were adopted around the holidays, I still consider all of them the metaphorical "gifts" that keep on giving. And despite the fact that they leave the occasional hairball in my shoe, I don't mean that sarcastically. Every day, these four-legged sidekicks of mine bring me tons of joy and laughter. Here are the reasons why.
They Make Me Laugh.
Everyone knows cat videos online are cute and funny, but as a pet parent of several rambunctious felines, I get these hilarious moments every day, no internet connection necessary. From their funny antics when they play with their toys to when they play with each other, they never fail to bring me a smile. Nothing is as goofy as my kitties throwing their toys around, jumping up to catch them, and then landing on each other. Or when they chase my automatic vacuum cleaner, which they see as the world's most expensive cat toy.
They Keep Me Active.
After a long day at work, I sometimes don't have the energy to do a full exercise regimen. Interactive play sessions with my cats give me quite the workout, especially when there is a favorite wand toy involved. I like to call this "cat aerobics" because there is a lot of jumping and running involved for me and my feline friends.
Games of kitty fetch with a favorite toy are a pretty good workout too, mostly because I have to chase my cats for them to relinquish the toy in question — making it really more of a game of fetch for the human!
They Relax Me.
There have been scientific studies that show a cat's presence and his purring can actually make a person feel better, but any cat owner probably already knows this. Just cuddling with any of my cats is calming, as is petting them. And our time together gives us a great way to bond with each other while the stress melts away.
They Inspire Me.
Whether it's writing about them or photographing them, my kitties inspire me artistically. Let's face it, felines are adorable four-legged muses. They also inspire me to be a better person and volunteer my time to help cats and dogs in need. When I see how happy my home makes them, I want to ensure all the kitties and pups in the world are just as loved. Of course, their cuteness always inspires me to give them treats, like Irresistibles® Treats from Meow Mix®.
They Help Me Make Friends.
Whether it's with a fellow cat owner at work, at the vet's office, the local shelter or even online, cats are great at breaking the ice with other humans. Plus, if I know that someone loves cats, then he or she will likely be a great person and friend, too. And I know that she'll truly appreciate the multitude of funny cat videos that I have to share!
